8 of 1981 concerning Criminal Procedure Law and other relevant laws and regulations provide justice as written at the beginning of this article. The decision is made in a deliberative session of the Panel of Judges
South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday, October 3 2023 by the Chair of the Panel of Judges and Members, which was said in a session open to the public on that day and date by the Chief Judge accompanied by the Member Judges assisted by the Substitute Registrar of the South Jakarta District Court and attended by Muhammad Ma’ruf SH MH (Public Prosecutor) and the defendant accompanied by legal advisors. At the end of the trial, the Chief Judge said, “This acquittal was not because the Panel showed compassion or pity, but the defendant was not proven guilty.” Suddenly, Akudo Agnes Ejizu (David Ibeneme Ejizu’s wife) and all the visitors to the congregation supporting truth and justice in this country roared with thanks until they shed tears. Meanwhile, David Ibeneme Ejizu raised his hands high in the atmosphere of emotion. Ronauli Silaen SH, who was also moved, accompanied him along with Anggiat Anju Hutasoit SH. At the Evidence Session on Wednesday, 27 September 2023 in the same courtroom, the defendant David Ibeneme Ejizu apologized to the Panel of Judges and stated that he did not know why he had to be in the defendant’s chair. “I only followed the whole series of activities carried out by some police in this country against me,” stressed David Ibeneme Ejizu. In his defense which was delivered in English and translated into Indonesian by a translator, David Ibeneme Ejizu told a brief chronology of his arrest, detention until he appeared in court. “I was treated unfairly by the police. My house was ransacked as if I were the perpetrator of a big crime. While I was in pain, I was arrested and detained outside the house. Several police officers entered my house. Then I was taken to their headquarters and interrogated “without being accompanied by a lawyer and translator. My office was also visited and ravaged by them. Valuables were taken and taken by them,” said David Ibeneme Ejizu, sobbing. At the evidentiary hearing, the defendant’s legal advisor also presented a defense witness, namely a female household assistant who had worked for the defendant’s family for the last 12 years. In her testimony, the household assistant for the defendant’s family stated that the defendant’s family was a good family, they were not found doing anything strange, they were a good and religious family who carried out their worship seriously. “I was once invited to go to his home country, Nigeria,” said ART. He added that the thing that changed this family’s life came when people wore police uniforms and claimed to be police. “The door of Mr David Ibeneme Ejizu’s house was banged very hard. After I opened the door, they came in and spread out in all directions doing their own activities. Some caught Mr David Ibeneme Ejizu. Some looked for valuables and someone found some money. The person who found the money then asked me for rubber (bracelets). After they had done their activities, together with Mr David Ibeneme Ejizu’s two children, I lived in the house without any need for food. Until finally the neighbors gave me “My family and my two children need food to continue our lives. Because Mrs (Mr David Ibeneme Ejizu’s wife) is away, aka she is not in the house,” he explained. At the Prosecution or Indictment Hearing a few days earlier (Friday, 29 September 2023) the defendant was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison (two years and six months in prison) and a fine of IDR 500 million, subsidiary to two months in prison. At this trial, three other defendants were also charged, each of whom was charged with a 4 year sentence and a fine of IDR 500 million, subsidiary to two months in prison. All defendants are accompanied by legal advisors, each consisting of three to five people. All four defendants were charged with violating Article 5 of Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning Prevention and Eradication of the Crime of Money Laundering in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code (KUHAP). “From the beginning to the end of the trial, it was not an easy thing to fight and seek justice for our client, Mr David Ibeneme Ejizu alias Oga Ibe, a businessman who is very well known among Nigerians in Indonesia and Nigeria. A servant of God who always accepts invitations to preach. “A person who is highly respected for his kindness. Plus a wife who is a servant of God. How could a figure like that be accused of money laundering. A matter that is completely unknown. Good people will always be given the best way by God, whom they always exalt,” wrote Ronauli Silaen SH on his personal Instagram account @ronaulisilaen2909. He added, “From the start our team was underestimated by the opposing party (read: Public Prosecutor). Our team submitted a pre-trial application and was dismissed. Our objection was rejected. Finally, God blessed us abundantly. We were given absolute victory so that the world would know that what was right is true. Our clients are free from all demands.
